To the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Moscow

Esteemed Ministry,

I am writing to you not as a political figure or institutional representative, but simply as a private citizen, a father of two daughters, and a man who has always believed in truth, peace, and the individual’s responsibility toward history.

Tonight, while watching the national news broadcast, I listened with deep concern to the opening report announcing a supposed NATO attack against Russia. As a parent, this narrative frightens me—not so much because I fear war, which we already know brings unbearable devastation, but because I recognize in these words a familiar script: the media construction of an enemy, the deliberate escalation of rhetoric, and the dissemination of stories seemingly designed to accelerate us toward a broader conflict.

My name is Nicola Costanzo. For the past thirty years, I have worked as a project manager for international construction companies, living and working across different countries and cultures. For the last fifteen years, however, I have dedicated myself passionately to writing through my blogs: https://nicolacostanzo.it and https://nicolacostanzo.com , where I reflect on information, power, democracy, and freedom of thought.

It is precisely from this experience that my unease arises. I have seen too often how the media transform complex events into simplified, manipulated, or even fabricated narratives—aimed clearly at shaping public opinion, creating artificial consensus, and justifying actions that would otherwise be unacceptable. It is for this reason that I have always chosen to remain mentally free, independent of partisan agendas, never willing to submit to ideological pressures or invisible coercions that limit critical thinking.

And it is precisely in the name of this freedom that I write to you today.

I firmly believe that the current escalation—including the recent reports of drones launched from Polish territory—does not correspond to the facts. Just as I never believed the official account of the sabotage of the Nord Stream pipelines in the Baltic Sea, an incident that remains unresolved, without independent investigations or identified perpetrators.

I fear that once again, a pretext is being constructed to widen a conflict already devastating enough. A war that, I am convinced, could have been avoided back in 2014—if diplomacy had prevailed over strategic expansion, if the proposals made by President Putin regarding collective security had been seriously considered, instead of misleading Ukraine with promises of NATO membership and military support destined to turn the country into a battlefield.

I am therefore contacting you not to take sides, but to ask for one thing only: an official, clear, and unequivocal statement from your Ministry, categorically denying any drone attack launched from Poland toward Russian territory. And, if possible, I would like to understand whether the devices shown by the media match actual Russian models, or if instead they are replicas built specifically to fuel the war narrative.

I fully realize I am not an institutional interlocutor. I hold no office, represent no government. But I firmly believe that every person who, in silence, chooses to speak the truth, lights a candle in the dark. As I often write: “Anyone who, in the course of life, has lit even a single light in someone else’s darkest hour, has not lived in vain.”

I trust that, despite the difficult circumstances, there is still room for dialogue, for truth, and for peace. I hope this war may finally end, and that the world—including the peoples of the Middle East, who for decades have known no serenity—can find once more a balance founded on mutual respect, not fear.

With respect and hope,

Nicola Costanzo
